Overview

The California Lyresnake is found across much of southern California west of the Salton Trough to the tip of the Baja California peninsula. Within the Atlas region, this species occurs in western Riverside County, San Diego County, southward to Cabo San Lucas in Baja California Sur. It appears absent from the low-lying Vizcaíno Desert, but is found in the isolated Sierras Vizcaíno and Santa Clara on the Vizcaíno peninsula. This species is also absent from the Magdalena Plain in Baja California Sur. The California Lyresnake is known from Islas Cerralvo, Danzante, San José, and San Marcos in the Gulf of California.
