The Western Toad occurs over much of western North America from southeast Alaska to the northern half of the Baja California peninsula. Within the Atlas region, this species is generally absent from the desert provinces and is primarily found in both coastal and mountain habitats. It ranges as far south as Bahía de Los Ángeles in the state of Baja California. It has been introduced into the urbanized desert community of Borrego Springs, San Diego County, California.
