The Barred Tiger Salamander occurs across the western interior of North America from southern Canada to western Texas. Within the Atlas region, this species has been introduced into San Diego County in the vicinity of Alpine and Jamul. Their introduction is believed to be associated with the use of their larval stage as a fishing bait.
